Is this an actual wedding or just a party?
Somewhere in between!
So there's no ceremony?
We'll exchange vows privately earlier that day, and then celebrate with y'all afterwards with lots of food, fun, and dancing!
When do I RSVP?
You already did!
What's the dress code?
Dress nicely, but not overly fancy—in the code words for dress codes, "semi-formal". Somewhere between Mamma Mia and The Devil Wears Prada. No specific color scheme, yes comfortable shoes, yes wear that funky thrifted shirt, tie only if you want to, and probably no athleisure unless you really know what you're doing.
Will it be indoors or outdoors?
The venue is all indoors, but it'll be easy to step outside and get a breath of fresh air if you need a break from the dancing.
Where should I stay?
It's New York City, up to you! But if you're interested, we have a group rate at two nearby hotels. Both are a 10-minute walk from the venue, and about $250/night: Marriott Fairfield Inn & Suites at 181 3rd Ave (link), and Marriot Townplace Suites at 561 President St (link).
Discounted rates are available during any days between Thursday (Apr 25th) and Monday (Apr 29th). Make sure to book by February 29th to get the discount. If you are interested in splitting the cost of a hotel room with someone, please let us know and we can connect you!
What's the easiest way to get to the venue?
The closest subway stops are Union St (7 minute walk, R train), Carroll St (7 minute walk, F/G trains), and Hoyt-Schermerhorn Sts (15 minute walk, A/C/G trains). There is street parking available nearby, though it may be difficult to snag a spot. There is also a QuikPark garage at 365 Bond Street, which is a four-minute walk from the venue. We are huge proponents of public transit and walking, but Uber and Lyft are very accessible in the city as well.
What time should I arrive?
The reception will start at 6:30pm and go until around 11pm or so. Food will be available shortly after you arrive.
When should I get to NYC?
Up to you! We'll have a low-key, totally optional gathering at a nearby brewery/eatery on Thursday night for people who arrive early. And, weather permitting, we'll also have a picnic in Central Park Saturday afternoon. More details to come!
Could you suggest places to eat and things to see while I'm in town?
Yes!Food
- Spicy Moon (vegan Szechuan)
- Jajaja (vegan Mexican)
- Veselka (Ukrainian institution)
- Thelewala (Indian street food)
- Soothr (Thai)
- Morganstern's (popular ice cream for a reason)
Sights
- Stroll through Prospect Park
- Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge
- Gaze across the East River from Brooklyn Bridge Park (it's a very good bridge)
- Take a picture from that one spot in Dumbo
- Spend an afternoon at the Met, MoMA, the Whitney, or Fotografiska
What's the weather like in NYC in April?
Spring is (in our opinion) when the city is the most beautiful. The weather can be a bit unpredictable, but typically peak temperatures during the day are in the 60's and 70's, and lows are in the 50's. Rain is more common in the spring, so you might consider bringing an umbrella.
Am I allowed to bring a plus one?
Yes! (if you indicated that you'd be bringing them when you RSVP'd)
Are children welcome?
Yes! (if you indicated that you'd be bringing them when you RSVP'd)
What type of food will be served at the reception?
Dinner and dessert will be served. We will have a buffet/cocktail-style dinner (think food trucks) so people can get up and mingle as they wish. We will have vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options available. On the RSVP, there will be a place to note specific allergies or dietary preferences.
Will there be an open bar?
Yes, there will be an open beer and wine bar, plus espresso, tea, and decaf options!
Do you have a registry?
Not exactly. Instead, we ask that you bring a copy of a favorite book along with a brief note on why you like it. At the end of the night, we'll do a book swap—everyone will go home with a new book! If you're so inclined, Anna would accept a handwritten note in lieu of a gift, but Pat will be searching them for sneaky gift attempts so don't even try!
There's really no registry?
We truly only ask that you bring a book for the book swap, no need for anything else—we mean it! Please especially don’t get us any physical objects, we have a tiny apartment and may need to move shortly after the wedding. If you really insist though, and you’re both (1) over the age of 35 and (2) feeling an inexplicable urge to give us something, then you can venmo Anna to help fund the coffee she’ll need as a medical resident.
I have more questions, what do I do?
Either text one of us or you can email annapluspat@gmail.com and we'll get back to you ASAP!
